Are you on Pinterest? Because if not, you should be. It is a very cool site that lets you pin everything you love and categorize different boards. It is fascinating to see how my sense of color, and style, and likes/dislikes is very apparent. I know it is silly.. but I am gaining a better understanding of what I love visually, and I think that is awesome!! Especially for one who makes her living with visual art. π
So, on this site, I found a tutorial for a no heat hair curling method, using damp hair and a headband. It sounded too good to be true, but I had to give it a try. It’s a bonus that on this particular hot July night, our a/c wasn’t cooling the bedroom too well. I was all too glad to have my hair up and off of my neck.
Here’s the tutorial.. it’s a very good explanation. And isn’t her accent precious? I love it.
This is what I used..
Here’s the deal with my hair. It is very coarse and thick and I have a long layered shag hair cut. I combed my hair every time I wrapped it because I wanted smooth curls. I also took small sections and given the spring and bounce of said curls in the morning.. next time I will wrap bigger sections. And not as tightly. My hair was full that day, yo!!
Also, in the interest of full honesty, had to use two applications of my smoothing serum to calm the curls down a bit and smooth everything out. And I did end up wearing it in a pony tail most of the day. But, the kicker, my curls were still here the next day… looser and more wavy, but still here. I will definitely keep this trick in my bag!
My sweet little Miss saw my hair and begged me to do that for her too. Her hair is immensely thick and it was freshly washed and damp dried. (I used day after hair for mine) I used really big sections for her hair and I loooove her result more than mine.
She did not get any smoothing serum or hairspray, because it’s expensive! She did say, after staring at her hair in the bathroom mirror, that she wants to do her hair like this for church on Sunday. Absolutely, baby girl. π Because I remember, back when I was her age, I was given a head full of sponge rollers every Saturday night. Her curly church hair desires are obviously genetic.
Happy Curling y’all!!
