But.. you have such a pretty face.
Ugh. For any woman or girl that has ever struggled with her weight, this is a phrase she has likely heard.
It is exactly the worst thing anyone can say to a fluffy gal. Maybe not exactly, but, for sure, it is one of the top ones.
That “but” has so many hidden meanings, so many feelings that will be triggered.
It is something someone should never say. If we are going to say someone is pretty.. we just need to say it. Don’t qualify it. Because in that qualifier, we are saying that the rest of us isn’t pretty. Our face is. The rest of us isn’t.
The opposite of pretty is what…ugly. So tell me.. if we are saying to someone that their face is pretty but their body is ugly, is that really a compliment?
The answer is a BIG FAT NO. And guess what.. if Jesus wouldn’t say it to any one.. we shouldn’t be saying it either.
Humans.. we gotta do better than this. We just do.
